Lookin a little tired (far right) but that was definitely worth the overnight flight and being on the ground less than a day!
Reel In The Closet won the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Tampa Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival on Saturday. The next day we won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at The Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale. LGBT Film Festival. The validation of an award helps me keep going forward with my work. It means that people believe in what I am doing helping save queer history in some small way and they liked how they felt seeing our community moving- being happy- in the fifties, forties and earlier.
Screening of Reel In The Closet at MiFo Film Festival October, 2015
In between Tampa’s screening on the gulf side of Florida and Ft. Lauderdale’s screening on the other side, I flew up to Iowa for about 12 hours to make a reunion of people I worked with at WOI-TV in Des Moines. I was a reporter there in the early 1990s and I hadn’t seen anyone since. Some of us stayed up all night.
